About The-TrukstoP.com

What exactly is this site about anyway?

Greg Davies, with stepdaughter Kalyn The-TrukstoP.com is a collection of both the projects worked on by, and the publication of rambling thoughts and opinions, by me, Greg Davies (aka cGt 2099).

I designed, created and still maintain this place, and while it focuses mainly on current projects I'm undertaking, it also provides itself as a springboard to my work with S.L.A.M., and Corey Hodgetts.

Greg who?

Yeah, I know. Sorry, I let my arrogance precede myself sometimes. But that's okay. I'm a Crazy Australian living in Lawton, Oklahoma, and have been here since 2003. If you want to know more about me, check out the MySpace page I maintain.

Or, you can check out the articles I've posted. Or, you can e-mail me. Or, send out a message via carrier pigeon - whatever works for you.

You're from Australia?

You bet I am. Born and raised in Perth, Western Australia, in fact. I lived there up until I was 27, and then moved over here to the United States. From 2004 to 2007, I also worked as band manager for metal group AGAINST 72.

What possessed you to move to Oklahoma?

Me and my wife, Kara My wife, Kara, lived here. We met online, would you believe? We first met online in 1996 - KISS fans in a chat room - and quickly became very close friends.

In 2000, we got even closer than before - it turned into a relationship of spiritual proportions. I moved here in 2003 so that we could get married.

You're a KISS fan? Dude, KISS sucks.

Glad you think so. But I don't care. You listen to what you want, and I'll listen to what I want. Incidentally, KISS isn't the only band I get into. I also listen to Alice Cooper, VAST, Strapping Young Lad, Anthrax, Rollins, Pantera, Damageplan, Mudvayne, Motley Crue, Devin Townsend, Karnivool, Metallica, Lamb of God, and Marilyn Manson.

I suppose you could call me a bit of a metal head. So much so, that you might even spot some articles about these bands here at The-TrukstoP.com.

When did this site start?

Greg aka cGt2099 The TrukstoP first debuted online in 1998, under the name of Chef Greg's Pages. Chef Greg was my nickname online at the time, and the webpage was limited to that of a single page of links.

Within a month, Chef Greg's Pages had been retitled as Chef Greg's TrukstoP. The title, TrukstoP, also came from my online nickname, which had evolved into ChefGreg'sTruk (Don't ask. Seriously, you don't want to know).

The site had turned into a hosting space for my KISS page, The Revenge Within, and my Star Wars page, Shadow of the Sith.

Star Wars, eh?

Absolutely - I've been a hardcore Star Wars geek since I was very little - and will always remain to be so. You will find a lot of articles to be Star Wars-related here, including anything to do with May 25 being the Universal Day of the Jedi.

So what were these older web sites all about then?

The Revenge Within was an inevitable inclusion because I had been a KISS fan since 1987 and I always had an inner desire to create my own KISS fanzine; web design had finally provided me a convenient forum to do so.

Shadow of the Sith was my attempt at creating a page that could be a general news source of Star Wars Prequel Development.

Well, why aren't you doing these sites anymore?

Me and Kara again In 2005 and 2006, it became clear to me that it was time to move The-TrukstoP.com into different waters. The KISS and Star Wars sites were great fun, and a big part of my development in learning HTML, but it was time to move forward.

The-TrukstoP.com has become, for me, a chance to voice my thoughts and opinions in articles of my own interest, but just as importantly (maybe even more so) a means by which I can focus on my own projects.

I wanted my site to focus on what I was doing, not what someone else was doing. But at the same time, I had to concede the point, that there would be things that happen in life that I would want to rant about in an article... so while the main focus are the projects I work on, it's also my soapbox for whining.

What are these projects you're talking about?

I am working on a lot of things. I maintain online sites for Aussie musician Corey Hodgetts and the organization SLAM.

I am writing numerous projects, including the first Sobering Thoughts publication, which was released in late 2007. You can get a copy of that here

What's this 'Sobering Thoughts' thing all about then?

(c) Greg Davies 1998 - 2007 Sobering Thoughts is a collection of lyrical concepts I've written over time. It all began when I came up with the concept of The Sobering Truk Thoughts: a forum in which posters at the board could post their creative writings. This concept would later evolve into the Sobering Thoughts feature of the TrukstoP.

Corey Hodgetts

Corey is a long-time friend of mine who lives back home in Australia. In April 2002, we joined forces to design his website to help promote his music. I still maintain his website, and his MySpace Music page.

S.L.A.M.

S.L.A.M. (Supporting Local Alternative Music) is an organization in Perth, Australia created and coordinated by Stevie D.

SLAM organizes shows for bands to perform at, and also provides recording opportunities, amongst other services, to groups. I approached Stevie D, because I felt that there was a need for a S.L.A.M. site, which was eventually launched in January 2003.

Your articles involve a lot of your own opinion. Why didn't you just make a blog?

It's bloody awful, that emo shit Because, eventually, just like the awful emo scene, the blog movement will die. It's inevitable. One day, people will realize that the more successful blogs are actually either run by journalists with excellent sources, or web designers that place a lot of careful thought into design.

Believe me, blogs will die. Yeah, yeah, I know, I have my own little blog thing on that MySpace page of mine, but then again, so does everyone else on MySpace - but if you do end up taking the time to check out that blog thingo on MySpace, you'll notice I approach the whole thing in a unique manner.

The-TrukstoP.com is a web site - not a blog. I don't do trends, I find my own groove.

Wow. Your website sucks.

Thanks. But it is far from over. As history has it, The TrukstoP has been a constant evolution and growth from Day One. Many more changes and developments will come, and the TrukstoP will continue to grow.

Who would have thought that a small 1998 links page would become something like The TrukstoP.com?
