Sobering Thoughts Volume I, my first novel, a collection of lyrical concepts I have been writing over the last 10 years (and more) will be officially released online on December 08, 2007.
Since the previous announcement that the book was complete, I have actually gone back and added more material to it. It's somewhat funny; something like this is never really "finished" or "done". You just run out of time to get it out there, I guess.
In related news, I have also begun work on Sobering Thoughts II. It will be similar in feel and style to this novel being released on December 08, but will be more subject-specific. Work is also continuing on Damagescape, and there's some other stuff being developed as well.
So... After fifteen years of writing lyrical concepts, I have finally completed the first novel of Sobering Thoughts. It has been a lengthy journey for me. Lyrical concepts for me have somewhat been a way of dealing with the cards that existence has dealt me; and I never would have imagined that I would ever be self-publishing my work - but here I am, and it is about to happen.
The book, Sobering Thoughts Volume I, spans over 200 pages and is partly a compilation of lyrical concepts that I wrote between 1991 and 2005; with the final part of the book being works I have written specifically for this publication between 2005 and 2007.
I recently had a discussion with fellow writer, Shawn Chiusano, who I am working with on a project entitled Chrysalis (more information on that soon also). He wondered why I was not trying to pitch the novel to agents or publishers. Simply put, "Sobering Thoughts Volume I" is an undertaking I wanted to get out of my system first. I am currently working on a massive amount of writing projects - each of them different and unique from another; and sought to do the Sobering Thoughts work on my own first. There's other projects I am into (some on the front position; others on the backburner) that I would rather put forward to publishers when they are complete.
This edition of Sobering Thoughts is also dedicated to my mother, Margaret Davies, who passed away in 2006. She was energized to hear that I was going to self-publish my lyrical concepts; and it saddens me that she is not with us today physically to see the final product.
& with all of this going on, I am also working on Volumes II and III of Sobering Thoughts. They will be coming out too. The second book I am hoping to have out sometime between late 2008 and early 2009; whereas the third one will be sometime after.
At any rate, it is an exciting time for me. I look forward to actually getting the final product out there. December 8, here we come.
